GAME NIGHT WITH NANZAN UNIVERSITY

April 26, 2022

This was such an incredible evening that we spent with students from UW-Madison and Nanzan University. We held a lovely social night with online games and many conversations. We always love to connect with other student populations, and we look forward to doing so again!

JSA X FASO SPAM MUSUBI & KARAOKE

April 16, 2022

We had an incredible collaborative event with one of our closest organizations, FASO (Filipinx American Student Organization). At this event, we belted out karaoke and ate delicious spam musubi. By connecting our cultures, JSA and FASO were able to become much closer! We cannot wait for our next collaboration!

SPRING FESTIVAL

April 9, 2022

Our annual Spring Festival event this year was incredible! We had such an incredible time with our performers, booths, delicious food from Ramen Kid, and community. This event was such an important celebration of Japanese culture and community, with an attendance of more than 200 people! Thank you so, so much to everyone who attended, and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year!

HANAMI COLLAB WITH CST

March 26, 2022

We had an amazing first-time collaboration with the Chi Sigma Tau Fraternity (CST) to celebrate the viewing of cherry blossoms. This Hanami event featured delicious traditional fruit sandwiches, the making of origami flowers, and the amazing brothers from CST. Thank you so much to everyone who came out and celebrated the beauty of cherry blossoms with us!

JSA X KENDO COLLAB

March 10, 2022

This event was an incredible collaboration with the Kendo Club on campus! This featured a very special demonstration from Kendo Club members, and we loved learning more about the popular modern Japanese martial art that is Kendo! Thank you so much to our fellow student organization and everyone who attended!

KAZOKU REVEAL PARTY

At this event, we revealed the long-awaited JSA Kazokus! A kazoku is our our version of an organization family, or a smaller group of JSA members to do activities, build relationships, and spend time together. More is to come with this amazing program!

WHITE DAY COOKIE COLLAB WITH AASU

We had an incredible first collaboration event with the Asian American Student Union. In celebration of Japan's White Day holiday (a Valentine's Day-like celebration), we made and decorated delicious cookies and shared them with our loved ones! Hopefully this incredible event satisfied your sweet tooth!

We loved celebrating Setsubun and the beginning of spring with you all! We hope your ehoumaki were delicious and that throwing the mame cleansed your spirit. This event welcomed spring and renewed good fortune for our members, and we hope they had an incredible spring semester following this event.

YAKI IMO PARTY

December 4, 2021

We loved seeing everyone at our annual Yaki Imo event! Our toasty yaki imo and delicious yakitori were so satisfying! There was good food, good music, good conversation, and great people! Here's a special shout-out to all of our incredible cooks for this event...food is such a special part of Japanese culture, and we cannot wait to have more food events in the future. The event was a great way to interact with the Japanese community in a casual environment.

HAFU DISCUSSION EVENT

November 20, 2021

We were so pleased to host our first discussion event of the Fall 2021 semester! After being introduced to the concept, history, and significance of the "hafu" or "double" (half-Japanese) experience, our members discussed what being Japanese means to them. Check out Tetsuro Miyazaki's Hāfu2Hāfu photo book or the documentary Hafu: The Mixed-Race Experience in Japan to learn more.

BUNKA NO HI CELEBRATION

November 5, 2021

We had so much fun celebrating Bunka No Hi (Culture Day)! From sharing onigiri and making origami to singing karaoke and practicing calligraphy, this event was packed with amazing activities. We had an amazing turnout (shout-out to our incredible JSA members!), and the event was a great way to share Japanese community and culture with our members and the Madison campus!

HAUNTED FOREST TOUR

October 29, 2021

Together, our members headed to Schuster's Farm to enjoy a night of spooks, treats, and community-building. We had an incredible time exploring the Haunted Forest, losing ourselves in the Cornfield Maze, and enjoying the nighttime fall weather. This event was the perfect way to begin Halloweekend and celebrate the beginning of fall!

MJSA CONFERENCE AT OSU

October 23, 2021

We were honored to take part in the Sixth Annual Conference for Midwestern Japanese Student Associations. Along with nine other Japanese student organizations, we gather at Ohio State University to reflect on our organizations and look towards future improvements. We enjoyed a special tea ceremony, MJSA and organization presentations, and so much Asian food! Thank you to OSU for hosting, as well as the wonderful MJSA team.

MOVIE NIGHT

October 8, 2021

For our first in-person movie night in a very, very long time...we had a blast watching Ghost in the Shell! The 1995 animated movie was packed with sci-fi intrigue and unexpected turns, making the firm a perfect movie for our viewing. We had an incredible, popcorn-filled turnout of members, and we can't wait to keep spreading the Japanese language (no English dub, obviously!) and culture with you all!

LIGHT THE NIGHT W/ AKDPHI

September 28, 2021

We had an incredible night under the stars at an event hosted by the Asian-interest sorority akDphi! This Mid-Autumn festival brought so many of our fellow Asian organizations together, and we were honored to be among them! There was great food (mooncakes and kabobs), games (lantern-painting and rabbit-pinning), and people! We're always happy to collaborate with our fellow Asian communities at Madison.

FALL KICKOFF EVENT

September 26, 2021

After too many months of online meetings and events, we were overjoyed to see our members in person! With an incredible turnout that more than filled our reserved room, we love that the Japanese community is thriving at Madison! From member introductions to a group competition, this event was energy-filled and an incredible start to the new academic year.
